It is so important for us to make people aware of the fact that the alarming conditions in the environment are becoming a huge burden that can indeed destroy whole human survival. Landfills are the major contributors for causing land pollution. This has resulted in huge methane emissions which create toxic health impacts on the environment. When these gases enter any living body, this gives rise to vomiting, nausea, bleeding, infections, and various other health issues. Dumping these kinds of wastes produce toxic gases like carbon monoxide, dioxin, hydrogen sulfide, etc thus decreasing the life expectancy of human beings.
High-level exposure to hydrogen sulfide leads to malfunction of the central nervous system and even leads to respiratory paralysis. With no other options people who are working in the landfill dumping sites, they work without taking or getting developed facilities and precautions which leads them to suffer from various types of health issues like memory disturbance, diarrhea, cholera, malaria, etc. Also dumping sites have created more opportunities for the spread of diseases and inviting various pathogens thus becoming an alarming issue for animals, humans, and the planet. Open dumping when burnt releases several toxic elements and leads to not only air pollution but also soil or land pollution. The frequent rise in these activities has led to the degeneration of the quality and types of plants or crops grown and using various chemicals to enhance productivity that as pesticides, and herbicides have resulted in a loss instead of healthy for the environment.
These issues have also impacted the quality of drinking water, and the supply of groundwater that gets contaminated again affects health. Burning off the metals, plastic wastes, and glasses generates huge amounts of chemicals leading to injuries and can become fatal. According to all the studies we have also found that people living less than 50 meters from dumpsite are mostly impacted. Now people may have raised or given a thought about that why people want to live near these areas, the simple answer is due to worst increase in population and lower employment rates it has resulted in people who live in these kinds of areas and spent their livelihood.
Dumpsites as a source of income make residents automatically exposed to hazardous substances from landfill. Also, lack of awareness and low rate of literacy results in worsening conditions. This also shows how socio- economical reason is a major reason for causing losses in human health. Now air pollution which leads to an increase in greenhouse gases like a release in methane, and carbon dioxide is of course not a friendship bond indeed the reports show it has resulted in skin diseases, throat infections, infections in bronchitis, etc. Also, because of these unavoidable circumstances, there is a massive increase in heart issues like chest pains and many chronic diseases. The relationship between residential proximity to landfill sites and adverse pregnancy results in lower birth rates or poor health conditions in infants. Thus, this causes psychological disturbances and mental dis-balance and worsens the conditions.
So right now the significant question is even though we have discussed the rise in frequent events and have raised various issues but yet we are lacking in providing the ultimate solution to improve the conditions of the environment, of the surrounding.
This is high time to pull up our socks and realize how important it is to improve our condition, otherwise, ignorance will not certainly but definitely lead us to fall into a deep hole where there is darkness and death.
