Objective: To remove the farmer’s dependence on groundwater for their farming needs.
Problem Statement: The water crisis in India is getting worse every year. The 600 million people in the Indo-Gangatic plain are going to face the sever water shortage in a few years. The groundwater is depleting at a very rapid rate. From our investigation we found, the agriculture sector is the biggest consumer of groundwater.
Solution: To solve the problem of excessive utilization of groundwater by the farming sector, we are creating this rainwater harvesting system so that the farmers can better utilize the monsoon water in their farm. Based on the information we learned from previous designs of the rainwater harvesting systems, existing poly houses used in different countries especially China, Israel, USA,.. we are working on this Polyhouse Rainwater Conservation System for the Indian farmers.
The advantages of this system be:
Collect the rainfall on the roof by redirecting the water to a storage tank so that the monsoon water can be utilized during winter and summer farming. Hence, helping the farmers being not dependent on the groundwater for their farming needs.
Act as a shield to protect the crops from getting damaged by the excessive rain.
Prevent the crops from excessive heat during the Summer season.
The system should be:
Retractable so that it won’t interrupt the faming activities
Portable
Affordable
Currently the project is in final design phase, getting ready for the MVP prototype.
