After understanding the severity of the crises of groundwater depletion at almost every corner of the country. And Water being one of the primary resources of India’s economy, the strength of our economy in the future will depend on how much water is available in the country. Therefore, we understand the necessity for preserving the groundwater and conserving the rainfall since it is the primary source of water for most of the country. In our studies, we found that the agricultural sector is the most water-extracting/depleting sector i.e. nearby 70 to 80% of the Groundwater. Therefore, our organization took on an initiative to research and develop technologies with the objective of the design to utilize the rainwater harvesting potential. Initially, our approach was focused on storing as much amount of rainwater as we can which was falling on a farmer’s land. Hence our R&D team came up with a very simple and ancestral-based technology for conserving and storing the excessive rainwater directly into the ground with the help of our PROTOTYPE 1.
The design can be utilized for both storing, conserving, and recharging the groundwater. And in return will reduce the direct dependency of the farmers directly from the groundwater by them utilizing the stored water first. The prototype is to be expected to be at the very end of the farm i.e. opposite to the direction in which the farmer usually supplies the water to the land and also at a certain slope so as there is the direct movement of water towards the system.
STEP FOR THE WORKING OF THE PROTOTYPE The water either from excessive rain or the one that the farmer provides moves towards the system and enters the opening Pt. 1 (Opening one) or Pt. 5 (Opening Two). Due to being at the slope or at an inclined angle the water itself moves (due to gravity) towards the opening of the filtering system which is Pt. 2 (opening of the filtering system) as shown above. The filter system (non-chemical filtration) is comprised of 3-4 square or rectangle-shaped boxes filled up with all the natural ingredients that are present in nature and helps in the filtering of the water so that it can be used later for ⦁ RE-USING ⦁ DRINKING (further filtration will be needed) ⦁ STORING (at the time of drought, lack of water supply) All the debris, insects, stones, or unwanted things that can be carried by the water can be collected at Pt. 3, to which the farmer can easily remove and clean it. After the filtering of water, it is collected through Pt. 4 (Opening to move the filtered water to the storage) and stored within the area of the space as shown above in the pictures. The storing area is expected to be covered either concretely or with mesh/plastic so that the water remains clean and for safety purposes as well! After the water is stored it can be extracted by the farmer to be used again.
This prototype can also be modified in various forms and as per the land sizes. And can be utilized the best on both barren as well as on agricultural farmland. But while investigating this product we found that many farmers were facing issues with excessive water therefore our team came up with another solution named PROTOTYPE 2 about which can be read in a separate blog. And this particular prototype can be utilized majorly to store and recharge the groundwater.
